So, our ceiling has sprung a leak.. Under the upstairs bathroom. The pipes here react to something in the water and get pinhole leaks... It will be fixed before too long, but this is a blog, so I post stuff that's going on.
Also Emily has started her job
With The census and is too busy to blog about it... So you get silly posts from me in the meantime...

walking the neighborhood

Taylor and I have been getting out everyday to go for walks in the neighborhood. It's great to walk here because there's no cars on the neighborhood streets. The DC area was planned in such a way that many side streets don't go through to the major ones, and forget the traditional grid layout! All the streets go at diagonals to each other, and curve and twist all over. This design was purposeful, an effort to confuse an invading enemy. While it does make for some challenging navigation, having so little traffic on the side streets is wonderful. So different than our street in Portland where cars would come zooming by, using Madison as a detour around Hawthorne and traffic lights...

Yesterday we walked to a park that's nearby, which has trails and a creek!

Nalah had some fun splashing around in the water :)

I also spent some time yesterday cleaning up the back patio. It still needs some work, but it's looking much better already. Here's before:

And after:

This morning Taylor and I found a few garage sale treasures. A cute bistro set for the back patio (just needs some paint), and a dining room table (just needs some chairs). For a whole $13, it wasn't such a bad deal :)

Death star 5?

Yesterday I went out and got a new desk and chair and then set about putting together the beginings of my first east coast recording studio. It is now a fully operational death star, I would like to see the rebels try and blow this one up... Not a chance!

Settling in.

Wow, it's been a journey! This whole moving across the country thing was a lot harder than I imagined in some ways, and also much easier in others. The difficulty was saying goodbye to everyone in Oregon. And deciding what to bring and what to leave behind (I think we aced this!). The anticipation and endless packing was not so much fun, and took a lot of energy that I hadn't expected. However, the actual drive across 3000 miles went really smooth and fast! All of a sudden we are here, and getting to know our new home. The easiest part is settling in. Everyone we meet or encounter is very friendly and open, again something I did not expect. The neighborhood we live in is beautiful, safe, convenient, and welcoming. It won't take long to feel at home here...

We sold the trailer on Saturday!

First night we moved in a guitar, and that's about it...

Everything is in bloom right now and so beautiful.

We still have lots of unpacking, organizing, and cleaning to do. Not to mention find furniture! Coming soon: a little history of 4941 Crescent, and Death Star Studios 5.0

Quick detour

Thanks to my terrible sense of direction an poorplanning skills... We got to cross the Mississippi river three times on three different bridges!
Pretty big river...
Poor Emily had to follow my awkward driving around some small town in Illinois... Sorry babe.

Another 3 state day!

Woke in Wyoming, drove through Nebraska, slept in Iowa...
We're making good progress, skipping the Chicago stop, and should arrive in Bethesda tomorrow night :)
This is the only picture I took in Nebraska, and I can confidently say that I hope to never have to go back to this state... Nebraska was boring, dusty, and WINDY. We were driving ahead of a massive storm, but we were too fast for it!
Sunset in Wyoming.

On to Illinois, and Ohio!

Yesterday we drove over 600 miles. We started out in Idaho, went south through Utah, then east through Wyoming. Most of the day was spent driving.

What does Nalah think?

Nalah has been a great sport about all this moving business. She gets to ride in my car, and seems to be quite happy as long as she's with us.
Mostly she just sleeps though...

And sleeps...

And sleeps...

What's going on??? Oh, still driving...

Back to sleep...

Celebrating Celebration and Palmer Masters

Our adventures in Idaho continued today! Graham (Sho's brother, who Taylor and I got to see in the Olympics this year) hosted a community event in downtown Ketchum, signing posters, taking pictures, and giving away snowboarding gear. It was neat to see all the support from his family, friends, and local community. We also explored a bit in Ketchum and Sun Valley, really nice little area with lots of outdoor activities. Reminds me of Park City/Sun River/Whistler/etc... Wish we had time to get up on the mountains!

Taylor being too cool for school.

Siblings! Graham, Sho, and Kailey

And yesterday... Taylor and I had the honor to participate in the annual Palmer Masters golf tournament! What is this event you ask? Well, first a course is made by participants, basically mini golf style, using whatever items one can find in the yard and garage. For example, lawn chairs, garden gnomes, snow, hoses, shovels, pipes, christmas wreath... you get the idea. We had a 9 hole course in all.
Some very important rules to note: A beverage must be in hand during play, shots must follow certain directions made by the hole's creator (under a chair, through a pipe, etc...), and distractions made by other players may or may not be allowed :) See Sho in the above pic.

And sometimes the golf balls get a little lost...

In the end Graham was the champion (third year in a row!) and donned the customary green jacket.

Tomorrow we say goodbye to Idaho and Sho's family, then we're off to Wyoming!
